U.S. military spending is higher than it has been since World War II, at a level difficult to justify by any threats to the American people. A close look at U.S. military spending shows that it is directed toward threats posed by conventional opponents such as the Soviet Union. That is, we are preparing to fight the last war.
At the same time, we have unmet needs that affect our security adversely, such as climate protection, infrastructure repair, human services, lack of health care and inferior education. Cutting military spending would allow us to address those crucial problems.
The following PDF provides a snapshot of major cuts and unmet needs the people of Maryland face:

UPDATE: Peace Action (national) has developed several flyers based in part on the above materials. The first provides a more attractive layout, the other two provide additional perspective and info.
1. An overview of specific cuts to the Pentagon budget that can be made right now to fund domestic programs. (Word format can be printed on letter size paper and stapled together or make a fold over pamphlet by printing front to back on legal size paper in the PDF format.)
2. A one page flyer on why we must reduce military spending. (Print on letter size in Word or PDF format on legal size paper.)
3. Facts and figures on the Pentagon Budget. (Print on four letter size pages in Word format or in PDF format front to back on legal size paper.)
